hi, Steve, your simple link cloaking works great when I can get it to work, trouble is when i have used it a couple of times it results in a server error message and I can’t get back into my site without help from my web hosting company. Are you aware of this problem? Any ideas of what I can do to stop it happening again because it really is the best link cloaking device I have come across.

Hi Ann,

The server error comes from entering either the link text or the destination URL incorrectly, with illegal characters or in an incorrect format. The result is a 500 Internal server error. If/when that happens, the only solution is to connect to the server via FTP, rename the htaccess file, then examine the file to see where the issue is.

The trouble from my end is that, in certain contexts, almost every character is allowed in a URL, with a couple of exceptions. It’s on the verge of impossible to be able to check the validity of the data that’s entered.

I’m thinking very seriously of taking the plugin down as it’s not very friendly to many users who aren’t technically savvy. Unfortunately, I don’t know of a solution to the issue other than to rewrite it completely. At this point, I don’t have the time to do that.

Hi Steve: My site (http://domcrincoli.com/) is completely down and has been for days. I don’t write code, but I’ve been told that my URL with index.php is resulting in the wrong server redirection. My blog is hosted by GoDaddy and they went through series of tests and said the site is pointing to the proper places, except the one ending in index.php. Can you offer any help or assistance– or resources– or anything at all. I’ve wasted the better part of day trying to figure things out in DIY’s help area and various other Thesis WordPress help sites. I appreciate it. Dom
